Dr Jaci Schultz: Clinical Homoeopath

Dr Schultz is a popular and respected clinical homoeopath practicing privately in Sandton, Gauteng and is registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) (Reg No. A07313). Dr Schultz has an MTec (Hom) degree from University of Johannesburg, which she achieved in 2000.

This is the only approved and recognised degree for registration as a homoeopathic practitioner with the AHPCSA. She is also a member of the Homoeopathic Association of South Africa (HSA).

In terms of the above qualifications, Dr Schultz is therefore licensed and competent to compound, dispense and prescribe homoeopathic medicines. She has the training, skills and competencies required to successfully diagnose, treat, and communicate holistic advice to her patients

What is Homoeopathy?

Homeopathy has been around for nearly 200 years and is a widely used complementary and alternative medicine, especially in South Africa. Throughout the world, especially as we grow further into the 21st Century, homeopathy is fast becoming an effective and viable approach to maintaining health and well-being.

According to the principle of homeopathy, a substance can be used to treat someone suffering from a condition that shows symptoms similar to those produced by that substance. This is the Homeopathic Law of Similars, which can also be expressed as “Let Likes be cured by Likes”.

Homeopathy recognises the importance of individuality and takes into account every patient’s unique experience of illness on a mental, emotional and physical level. While homeopathic practitioners are clinically trained to diagnose and treat disease, their holistic approach enables them to understand the patient as well as their ailments, in addition to providing effective treatment, sound advice and support.

Articles by Dr Jaci Schultz

The following article, “Homeopathic Remedies in Pregnancy”, by Dr Schultz, appeared in Living & Loving in November 2012. Homeopathic medication is safe throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, which makes it a viable option for treating many conditions that conventional medicine would not be recommended for:

• Sepia 30CH – for heavy, downward sensations in the stomach where you experience an ineffectual urge to pass a stool that often looks like large nuts or ‘bokdrolletjies’.
• Nux Vom 30CH – for a constant ineffectual desire to pass a stool, and when you do manage to go, you feel as if you’re not yet done. You may also experience loud, flatulent rumblings after eating.
• Opium 30CH – when there is no desire to pass a stool, but when you go, you produce small, hard, dark balls.

• Arsenicum Album – this works well for anxiety that’s particularly severe between the hours of 12am and 2am.
• Argentum Nitricum – this remedy is ideal for calming nerves leading up to an event such as giving birth. Ideally, consult a homeopathic practitioner who can examine your symptoms and devise a specific script for your symptoms with individualised doses.

Morning sickness and nausea

• Sepia – this helps with nausea especially at the sight and smell of food.
• Tabacum – reduces incessant nausea that escalates with certain smells like tobacco smoke, and vomiting.
• Nux Vomica – helps with irritability of the entire digestive system.
• Symphoricarpus Racemosa – a remedy for when there’s persistent vomiting.

• Arsenicum Album – this helps to soothe burning in the pit of the stomach and frequent vomiting that’s relieved by sipping water.
• Nature Carbonicum – ideal for moms-to-be who have a weak digestive system that’s aggravated by dairy products and when belching and joint pain is improved by eating.

A runny nose or cold/flu symptoms

• Natrum Muriaticum – this remedy helps to treat the watery mucus that’s associated with sneezing, especially in the morning.
• Arsenicum Album – this is a great homeopathic remedy for clearing a blocked, stuffy nose and minimising the effects of constant sniffing and sneezing.
